I, too, believe that's it's possible to live chuz la'aretz and continue working on behalf of the Jewish state. I did so for many year living in the U.S.

As for Amona, I agree with you on most points you make. But I believe that the unfolding of the intifada(both first and second) as well as the growth of international Muslim Jew-phobia has caused the Mafdal, as leader of the Zionist Jewish community to divert to a position of uncomprimising settlement in Greater Israel as well as no negotiations whatsoever with terrorists whose only goal is to make this land Juden-reich.

BTW: I'm voting E'hud Le'umi/Mafdal in the upcoming elections and am very glad that the N.R.P. joined hands with the N.U. I hope this combo makes for a strong Knesset bloc.

Be'shalom, Eitan.Eitan Ha'ahzarihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17112407136416885944noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14822745.post-1141073584991338162006-02-28T07:53:00.000+11:002006-02-28T07:53:00.000+11:00Shalom Eitan,I came to Australia as a child, a cho...Shalom Eitan,
I came to Australia as a child, a choice more of my parents making than mine. At the moment, I choose to live in Australia. I believe one can still be a Religious Zionist from abroad, and care about Israel. All the opinions expressed in this blog are authentic Israeli positions that are unfortunately not aired in Israel. “From the days of rabbis Isaac Jacob Reines and Judah Leib Maimon to the government ministers Haim-Moshe Shapira and Zerach Wahrhaftig, religious Zionism presented an entirely different face. Its teachers and leaders preached compromise, peace, finding a common denominator. Out of a deeply rooted and burning Torah belief, they clung to the value of sensitivity to the suffering of the "other."

My comments about hugging in Amona are perhaps tongue in cheek. I do not however, move away from Melchiors comments regarding the impact of violence. To quote again, “The violent event at Amona hammered another nail into the coffin of religious Zionism and made the Torah a synonym for bullying, extremism and hatred of the "other." In the minds of the settlers there are the rights of humans, and then there are the rights of "our people." The events at Amona have taught us that uncompromising violence and the flying batons of the police know no bounds and do not discriminate between Jew and Arab. All are the same, and smashing the head of an Arab leads easily to smashing the head of a Jew.”

Shalom and PeaceIttayhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02508597128498611055noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14822745.post-1140905554559455682006-02-26T09:12:00.000+11:002006-02-26T09:12:00.000+11:00Ittai...Man I feel you've got it all wrong though ...Ittai...Man I feel you've got it all wrong though I've got all the respect in the world for your intentions. You seem to think that negotiations with terrorists and giving in to police brutality is the way to go. It's not and you're sadly mistaken. BTW: you mentioned you lived in Israel and I gather you left for Australia. How do you reconcile that with being the religious Zionist that you claim to be?

Be'shalom, Eitan.Eitan Ha'ahzarihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17112407136416885944noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14822745.post-1140425699651947422006-02-20T19:54:00.000+11:002006-02-20T19:54:00.000+11:00I was in Amona. The police came with intention to severly injur children.
What I witnessed in Amona, was Olmerts private militia carrying out war crimes against his own people for the sake of political gain.
If you would like to see more on this, visit my israel blog, http://unliklelytrio.blogspot.comsubjewdhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11244070899362601369noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14822745.post-1139818182228779822006-02-13T19:09:00.000+11:002006-02-13T19:09:00.000+11:00Definitely. Maybe the blues and oranges can have a joint kumsitz and sing erev shel shoshanim. For the left and right to unite, they need a common an enemy. Since the left are now seeing the Arabs as victims rather than enemies, is time for a new common enemy. Any suggestions? Maybe they could both hate midgets. When I was in Israel recently I saw how split the county is on this issue and the broader issue of hitnatkut or disengagement. Melchior spoke at a panel and said that disengagement is the best thing for Israel at the moment. He said that he believes that the government is only thinking of Israel's best interests. Another speaker on the panel was from gush katif. He responded to Melchior and said that he believes that the settlers have been completely abandoned by the government. Some gush katifniks feel so hurt by what has happened that they are now encouraging their children not to serve in the army. Following the recent Amona incident the slogan "Olmert is bad for the Jews" has been circulating within the settler movement...Anyway, I dont know what to think...Do you think a group hug would help?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
